PRIVACY POLICY

This is the web site of Macquarie Graduate School of Management Pty Ltd (MGSM), a wholly owned company of Macquarie University. This statement sets out MGSM's policies relating to your personal information.

MGSM endeavours to comply with the Information Protection Principles created by the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act PPIPA 1998 (NSW) (the "PPIPA"). MGSM has introduced practices and procedures to maximise compliance with the PPIPA by virtue of the:

  • Macquarie University Code of Practice; and   
  • Macquarie University Privacy Management Plan.

Each of these documents is available upon request.

Users should note that there are risks associated with the transmission of information over the Internet. Users should therefore make their own assessment of risks in the provision of information on MGSM's Internet site. MGSM will provide you with alternative means of providing information and transacting business if you feel uncomfortable with electronic transmission of information. We endeavour to provide a safe means of transacting business in a manner which effects compliance with the PPIPA.

Privacy Notification under section 10 of the PPIPA

MGSM acknowledges and respects the privacy of individuals. Personal information is collected with your consent. Your consent is given when you send information to MGSM through its Internet site. We advise that the information that you provide on this site is "personal information" as defined by the Privacy and Personal Information Act 1998 (the "Act").

The purpose for collecting this information varies depending upon your request, but comprises:

  • Assisting us in improving our service to you;   
  • Processing your application and/or registration and/or enquiry;   
  • Keeping you informed of upcoming events;   
  • Updating your records on MGSM databases;   
  • Monitoring and maintaining a copy of your record of academic achievement (including all information arising from investigations of misconduct);   
  • Planning the provision of educational courses;   
  • Monitoring and enhancing the provision of educational courses;   
  • Purposes incidental to each or all of the above.

The intended recipients of the information vary depending upon your request, but include:

  • officers within MGSM and/or the University;   
  • data service providers engaged by MGSM and/or the University from time to time;   
  • any other body which forms part of MGSM and/or the University;   
  • any other participating University to the Privacy Code;   
  • agencies of the federal and state governments, overseas partners and/or education partners who require the information for administrative purposes;   
  • Employer Organisation and/or referees in circumstances when such disclosure is deemed necessary by MGSM and/or the University to further the application;   
  • any College which forms part of MGSM and/or the University;   
  • the MGSM Alumni Association;   
  • the Macquarie University library;   
  • any other Education Institution which you may apply to do a course;   
  • MGSM Academic Class Lists; Student Class Lists; and Careers Service.

While the supply of the information by you is voluntary, if you cannot provide or do not wish to provide the information sought, MGSM and/or the University may be unable to meet the purposes for which the information was collected.

If you have already provided information but you have changed your mind and do not want that information used, you may make application for access or amendment, or to instruct MGSM that any information is not to be used.

MGSM provides rights of access and alteration to personal information held on and about individuals and such rights are governed by the PPIPA and Freedom of Information Act. MGSM will only disclose personal information in accordance with the Information Protection Principle as modified by the University's Code of Practice.

The information which is collected by MGSM will be held by MGSM, as part of the University.
